The Great Escape has announced the third round of acts for this year's festival and they are Melanie Horsnell, Macromantics, The Panda Band, Children Collide, Bridezilla, The Paper Scissors, Wons Phreely, The Mares, Whiskey Go Gos, Toy Death; plus internationals The Magic Numbers, The White Buffalo, Joel Plaskett, and Iain Archer. Sparkadia has changed the venue for its Things Behind The Sun EP launch and will now be launching it on Friday March 2 at Bar Broadway, Sydney. Supporting on the night is Richard In Your Mind plus DJ sets by PhDJ and Nick Findlay. Before heading overseas to perform as part of South By South West, Spod plays a farewell show on Friday March 2 at the Hopetoun Hotel, Sydney with Emergency Emergency and Talon. To celebrate the occasion a very limited edition EP, containing covers done on a Commodore 64, will available on the night. Melbourne three piece My Disco heads out on a national tour this April and May. The tour will see the band stop at all the major cities, as well as many regional venues that they have never played before. The tour also sees the release of the limited edition vinyl version of the album Cancer, which will be available at all shows. Wolfmother returns to home shores for a handful of dates in Ballarat, Canberra, Newcastle, and Adelaide, kicking off late March and winding up early April. Ned Collette after two local shows supporting Joanna Newsom has been invited to support her on European tour this April. A mini-tour of the UK and the US is also being scheduled for the end of April / beginning of May. Ned has also been invited to play at the NXNE Festival in Toronto, Canada which runs from June 7-9th. A Canadian and East Coast US tour will be scheduled around this showcase. Before all this happens Ned plays a run of local dates this March supporting Scotland's Camera Obscura and label mate New Buffalo. The Gin Club and Andrew Morris team up for a national kicking off Sunday February 25 in Byron Bay and winding up Saturday March 17 in Hobart. Winterpark the new collaborative project for Matt Ridgway has released its debut album One Night Alone on Creative Vibes. Matt was a member of Crettins Puddle, and has since been making electronic music for independent films and playing in Ross McLennan's backing band. The album features guests appearances from Ross McLennan plus Gavin, Susannah, Jules, Jordy and Karl from the Hampdens. The band, which features Jordy and Karl, will undertake a national tour in March in support of the release.
The Hopetoun Hotel in Sydney plays host to a special Valentines Day tribute on Wednesday February 14. The night will feature performances from Dave Rennick (Dappled Cities Fly), Jack Ladder, Kym Louise Barton (The Exiles) Joseph Leonard, Dave Cotsios (The Woods Themselves), Toby Martin (Youth Group), Matt Toohey (Kid Cornered) and Kaity Fox. Doors open from 8pm and tickets are on sale on the night for $10.
