Monday, 26th

The John Butler Trio has released its new album, Grand National, and will be launching it with a special show at Melbourne’s Federation Square on Easter Thursday April 5. The once off performance will see the trio playing the new album with the musicians who helped make it, including the horn section, string section, Vika and Linda Bull, Jex Saarelaht and more. The Triple J Live music team and JTV live will be recording the event for broadcast at a later date. Aside from this special show the band will be playing festival dates in Sydney, Byron Bay and Perth during late March / early April. A national album launch tour will be forthcoming. The Grates release their first live DVD, Til Death Do Us Party: Live At The Forum, in stores March 31 through Dew Process / Universal Music Australia. The performance was recorded at The Forum in Melbourne, during the band's winter wonderland themed tour October last year. To coincide with its release the DVD will be launched as a JTV special at 10.55pm on ABC TV on March 31.

Blueline Medic releases its third full-length album 42:19 in stores April 14 on Casadeldisco Records. The album has been a long time coming, with it being four years since the last album. In support of the release the band heads out on east coast tour this May. Further details »

Thursday, 22nd

Due to unprecedented demand, Sarah Blasko has added another Brisbane show at the Cremorne Theatre on Tuesday, April 3. Sarah's two intimate theatre shows in Brisbane sold out in less than a week. Another show was added for Monday April 2 but tickets are selling fast. The shows are part of a series of rare and intimate performances at theatres across the nation this March, and feature two sets of music performed by Sarah and a chamber ensemble, with an array of mystery musical guests appearing throughout the tour. The Essential Festival returns for the second year running on Anzac Day Wednesday April 25 across three performance spaces in Devonshire St, Surry Hills: The Gaelic Theatre, The Gaelic Club’s upstairs space Four Provinces and the Madison Hotel. Something With Numbers undertake an extensive national tour, kicking off late April and winding up early July, in support of their new single Goodbye Mickey Finn. Further details »

The Basics undertake an intense tri-state residency this April playing weekly shows at The Hopetoun in Sydney, The Troubador in Brisbane, and The Empress in Melbourne. Children Collide returns to local shores, after recent performances at SXSW and whirlwind tours of the US and UK, for band's first ever headline tour and a handful of festival performances. Sally Seltmann aka New Buffalo returns with her second album Somewhere, Anywhere due out March 24 on Dot Dash Recordings. The album features guest appearances from Sally's husband Darren Seltmann (The Avalanches), Kellie Sutherland (Architecture In Helsinki), Dale Packard (Ground Components), and John Lee (Mountains In The Sky). In support of the long player she heads out on the road from late April to mid May. Wednesday, 21st

Josh Pyke heads out on the road this April and May for a national tour in support of his debut album Memories & Dust, which debuted at #4 on the ARIA Album Chart this week. Supports on the tour are Old Man River and Melanie Horsnell. Josh is currently overseas, having played SXSW in US and about to embark upon his third tour of the UK, where the album will be released later in the year on Island Records. Further details »

Tuesday, 20th

Soft Tigers have signed to Below Par Records, with their first release being the single M.A.R.I.A.. The single will be available as a limited edition 7" due out April 23, featuring a bonus Bumblebeez remix track, and as a download from iTunes. The single is lifted from debut album Gospel Ambitions, which while not due out till mid-2007, is currently available as a demo cassette with hand-made packaging at the band's live shows. Deloris returns to Sydney next week for a one off special show with The Instant and The Wood Themselves at The Hopetoun Hotel on Friday March 30. Before then, Marcus will be doing a solo performance in Adelaide on Thursday March 22 at De La Cattessan Gallery, Anster St with Laurence Scucs. Overcranked organisers have announced that Frenzal Rhomb has had to pull due a serious family illnes. Mary Trembles has also had to cancel due to overseas commitments. Replacing both acts are Shihad and After The Fall. The Scientists release the live album Sedition - recorded May 11th 2006 at Shepherd's Bush Empire, London - in stores April 7. In celebration of the release the band plays two rare live shows in April: Saturday April 7 at Annandale Hotel, Sydney w/ The Pink Fits and 3DTV; Sunday April 8 at Gershwin Room, Melbourne w/ The Stabs and Witch Hats. Late April sees the band head to the UK to play the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival as curated by The Dirty Three.

Rand and Holland launches its album Caravans in Melbourne and Sydney in this March. The launch shows will feature the group performing in full band mode featuring members of Holy Balm and Moonmilk, and in Sydney, Ned Collette. Newcastle based six piece, The Seabellies, have won the Garage To V band competition earning a slot at the V Festival and $10K worth of recording time. The other finalists were Ouch! My Face!, Butcher Birds and The Government.

International Karate has released its third album More of what we've heard before than we've ever heard before on Sensory Projects. In support of the release the band will be playing two Melbourne shows: Saturday March 24 @ The Rob Roy - launching 'Rob Roy – A Live Compilation' with Laura and Rhythm Bell, and Saturday March 31 @ The Tote with Black Cab.

The Great Escape has announced another batch of acts for this year's Easter long weekend festival. Joining the bill are Triple J Unearthed winners Cuthbert & The Nightwalkers, Walrus, and Emergency Emergency; DJs from Purple Sneakers; and Future Classic DJs Jamie Lloyd, Jimi Polar, DJ Regal, Simon Caldwell, Somatik and Frenzie. Perth based band Institut Polaire has signed with Popfrenzy Records - the label's first Australian signing. The band is currently working on a self-titled EP due for release in June.

The Forgotten Army has decided to call it a day and will be playing its final show on Friday March 30 at The Annandale Hotel, Sydney.

Wolf & Cub have just announced a national Australian tour with Dot Dash label mates Snowman joining them as support. The tour kicks off late April and winds up in mid May. Further details »

Love Of Diagrams have released their new album Mosaic on American label Matador, with local distribution by Inertia. The long player was recorded in Chicago at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio Studios with legendary producer Bob Weston. The band is currently in the midst of an overseas tour playing dates in the UK, followed by extensive touring of the US during April and May.

Monday, 5th

V Festival organisers have announced the final round of acts for this year's festival with the addition of The Valentinos and The Ghosts, plus internationals Beck, New York Dolls, Nouvelle Vague and New Young Pony Club.
