Thursday, 23rd

Sleep Parade launches its debut EP You Are Here in Melbourne and Sydney this April at the following venues: Sat 8 April @ The Espy/Gershwin Room, Melbourne w/ Long Walk Home, The Rex Wicked and The Butcher Birds; Thur 13 April @ The Cat & Fiddle, Sydney; Sat 15 April @ Landsdowne Hotel, Sydney. The Melbourne group recorded the extended player with Lindsay Gravina, and it's out now through MGM Distribution.

Howling Bells release the single Low Happening in stores April 28. The single is lifted from the forthcoming debut album, recorded in England with Ken Nelson. The album is set for release for May / June this year.

Wednesday, 22nd

Pitching Woo launches its debut release Yours Etc on Friday March 31 at The Rob Roy Hotel, Melbourne. Supports are Sydney's Merle Morris and Light Says Solo. The release is self funded and for the most part self-recorded.

Tuesday, 21st

Sydney band The Null Set has called it a day after two and a half years together. No final shows have been announced.

Gorgeous are calling it a day after six years with a final show on Friday March 24 at The Troubadour, Brisbane with support from Melbourne band Jane Vs World. Emma and Fi will continue to focus on their own musical projects.

Alex Lloyd hits the road throughout April and May in support of his forth and self-titled studio album. The tour coincides with the release of the next single Brand New Day, featuring bonus tracks including a remix of 'Never Meant To Fail' and two previously unreleased tracks, due in stores April 8. The single's title track will be accompanied by a film clip featuring internationally acclaimed actor, David Wenham. National support on the tour is Sydney outfit The Golden Age. Further details »

Fourth Floor Collapse launches its new album Books With Broken Spines in Sydney on Thursday March 23 at The Annandale Hotel with special guests The Dawn Collective and Gabriel's Day. The album was recorded at Blackbird Studios in Perth shortly before the band relocated to Melbourne.

Youth Group perform a run of intimate shows during May, in nearly all Australia capital cities, in support of the single Forever Young. The band is currently touring the US including appearances at the Coachella & Noisepop festivals. Whilst overseas the group will complete recording its third album in LA with Wayne Connolly. Come Together Festival returns for 2006 this time as two day event during the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend at Sydney's Luna Park. Wednesday, 15th

The Living End hits the road this May in support of its new album, State Of Emergency. Supports on the tour are Gyroscope and Kisschasy. Following these dates the band heads overseas to tour the US throughout Australia's winter. Further details »

Josh Pyke and Bob Evans team up for a national tour this April and May. Bob Evans, aka Kevin Mitchell from Jebediah, has been busy recording his second album in Nashville, with the first single Don’t You Think It's Time to be released in April. Gerling releases its fourth album, simply entitled 4, in stores March 18. The album was recorded over the course of seven weeks in LA with Ethan Johns producing. In support of the release the band performs Saturday March 18 at the Gaelic Club, Surry Hills with special guests Midnight Juggernauts and The Paper Scissors. This is followed by Friday March 24 at Northcote Social Club in Melbourne, and Saturday April 1 at The Rev in Brisbane.

Splendour In The Grass returns for 2006 on the weekend of Saturday July 22 and Sunday July 23 at Belongil Fields, Byron Bay. This year the sees an upsizing of the festival site, increasing the capacity to 17,500 patrons, and creating space for new attractions including a fully seated theatre style stage and outdoor cinema. The Essential Festival is a new and unique boutique festival set to happen Anzac Day Tuesday April 25 in Surry Hills, Sydney. The festival will incorporate three different venues along Surry Hills' Devonshire Street: Gaelic Theatre, Madisons, and The Gaelic Club. The line-up so far is: Decoder Ring, Dappled Cities Fly, Midnight Juggernauts, Red Sun Band, The Devoted Few, Further, The Lovetones, The Valentinos; plus DJs from Purple Sneakers, Bing Bang Bong and Pash. Thursday, 9th

Indyfest, Canberra's longest running independent music festival, returns for its 17th year on Saturday March 18 at the Greenroom, Woden. This year the festival will be an all ages event with one outdoor and two indoor stages. Two of the three stages will be dedicated to all age patrons during the day, with the night stages for those over 18. Bands confirmed so far include: Casual Projects, Quagmire, Never in Doubt, Australian Kingswood Factory, Using Three Words, Danbanks Band, Sansutra, Super Best Friends, Zero Degrees And Falling, Epic Flagon, Strong Like Sam, Spoil, Switch 3, Kill for Satan, Bring On the Junta, Blair + The Wedded Bliss, Fist Full of Nothing, The Lavans, and Barrel Of Monkeys. The Vines third album, Vision Valley, will be released in stores April 1. The thirteen track album was produced by engineer Wayne Connolly. There are currently no plans for the band to tour the album.

Princess One Point Five aka Sarah-Jane Wentzki takes a break from recording her second album to play two solo in Melbourne and Brisbane to test out the new material. The album is due for release May 2006 through Pharmacy Records, followed by launches in June. Further details »

Giants Of Science hits the road this March and April to launch its new mini-album Sisters in Brisbane and Melbourne. The release features the title track, along with six renditions of songs by bands that have helped cultivate the group's sound, including Sparklehorse, Swervedriver, Superchunk and Split Enz. Jen Cloher releases her debut album Dead Wood Falls in stores March 20 on Shiny Records. The album was recorded live to tape over five days at Melbourne's Sing Sing Studios, produced by Paul McKercher and features a handful of guests including Mia Dyson, Charlie Owen and Bic Runga. In support of the release, Jen and her band the Endless Sea will play album launches in Sydney and Melbourne in April. Further details »

Sekiden has released its new single Up In The Air on Valve Records. The three track single is the first taste of the forthcoming album Sound Instincts due out in early April on Valve, and later in the year in Canada, USA and Europe on the indie label Boompa. In support of the single Sekiden hits the road from mid March till early April with Spod and new Brisbane band I Heart Hiroshima whose debut EP 3 Letter Word for Candy is out now on Valve. The Gin Club returns from its recent appearance at the Canadian Music Week for dates in Brisbane and Melbourne during March and April. The group's debut album Fear Of The Sea is out now on Plus One Records, through Reverberation Distribution. Further details »

The Australian Music Prize has announced Melbourne four piece The Drones as the winner of the inaugural prize. The band was presented with the $25,000 cash prize in recognition of the album Wait Long By The River And The Bodies Of Your Enemies Will Float By, which was voted by industry professionals and peers to be the most outstanding album released in 2005.

Van She hits the road from late March to early June for an extensive national tour. The first half of the tour sees them acting as the main support on Faker's national tour. This is followed by a national tour with End Of Fashion kicking off in May, and winding up with the band's own headline show in Perth at The Prom, Artrage in early June.
