Josh Pyke embarks on a brief east tour this February to celebrate the success of 'Middle of the Hill', which came number 19 in Triple J's Hottest 100, and the release of second single 'Private Education' - both taken from his mini album Feeding the Wolves. Karnivool hit the road in February and March for an extensive national tour. The shows are in support of the new single Roquefort, a previously unreleased version of the album track featuring Harry James Angus from the Cat Empire and Kieren Conrau from the Empire Horns. Kisschasy releases its new single The Shake in stores February 25. The single features two new b-sides plus a DVD documentary of the band recording its album, mixing & playing shows in the USA as well as behind the scenes on the first two music videos. In support of the release the band is embarking on a stripped back semi-acoustic tour with special guest Rob Sawyer. Black Pony Express have finished recording their debut album Love In A Cold Place with producer Simon Grounds (Underground Lovers, Snout, Bird Blobs) and are fielding label interest. Gareth Skinner releases his debut solo album Eternal Nowhere in stores January 16 through Rubber Records. Gareth is a former member of The Ergot Derivative, Bzark and current member of Disaster Plan; as well working as a session cello musician for Powderfinger, Something For Kate and Hunters & Collectors, and writing feature film soundtracks. The record features guest musicians Ollie Olsen (Third Eye, Max Q), Simon Polinski (Hesius Dome) and Drew Caldwell (Disaster Plan).
St Jeromes Laneway Festival organisers have announced the second and final round of acts for this year's events in Sydney and Melbourne. John Butler's grants programme, The JB Seed, returns in 2006 are after its inauggural year in 2005. This year the programme has additional contributions from Phil Stevens Management, John Watson Management, Sebastian Chase and Kylie Greenlees from MGM Distribution, and Missy Higgins - like minded music industry professionals are also encouraged to get on board. Expressions of interest are currently being accepted in five programme areas: social activism through the arts, professional and skills development program, indigenous touring program, publicity / marketing program, management workshop. Tucker B's launch their album Chubby in Melbourne on Saturday January 14 at the Tote, Collingwood. Minimum Chips launches its long awaited debut album Kitchen Tea Thankyou in Sydney on Friday January 13 at the Mandarin Club. Supports on the night will be Terrapin, Rand & Holland, and Sly Hats. The twelve track album was recorded with Greg Walker, and at home by Julian from the band. The record is out now on Trifekta.
