Wednesday, 31st

Weir launches its debut EP The Risk on Saturday August 17 at The Civic, Sydney. The Sydney four piece recorded the extended player in Perth with Dave Parkin at Blackbird Studios, while Dale Shearsmith took care of the mixing back in Sydney.

Sydney four piece Van She has signed with Modular Recordings. The group is made up of Nick Routledge, Matt Van Schie, Michael Di Francesco and Tomek Archer. The next few months will see the band writing, recording and releasing an EP expected to be in the shops before the year's end.

Tuesday, 23rd

Sydney community radio station FBi 94.5FM releases the the compilation Kill Your Idols on Monday August 29 distributed by Inertia. The compilation features a collection of local artists in the rock, indie and electro genres including: The Emergency, Riff Random, Cut Copy, Gold Mice, Wolf & Cub, Decoder Ring vs Spod and many more. Also appearing is the FBi Idols - featuring Sarah Blasko, Dave McCormack, Spod, Tony Buchen (Baggsmen), Michael Iveson (Upshot) and Bow & Davis (Front End Loader) - doing a cover of Turn Up Your Radio. All profits go directly to the station.

British India hit the road from late August till mid September in support of Tambalane. British India's debut single Outside 109 is out now on limited edition 7" vinyl on In-Fidelity recordings, and the debut EP produced by Harry Vanda of the Easybeats is due out in October. Further details »

Thursday, 18th

Brian Baker and the Spoils of the Empire will launch their new album Prague Radio in Melbourne on Friday August 26 at the Rainbow Hotel, Fitzroy. Entry is free and the entire gig will be filmed for a live DVD.

X-Press Magazine celebrates twenty years of publishing with a concert on Friday August 19 at the Perth Concert Hall, St George's Terrace, Perth. Performing on the night will be Eskimo Joe, Downsyde, End Of Fashion, Karnivool and The Avenues. Doors open at 6.30pm and tickets are on sale now from BOCS Ticketing

Wednesday, 17th

Sparrow Hill launches its debut album Until You Go in Sydney on Sunday August 21 as part of Frigid at @Newtown. Supports will be Scissors For Sparrow plus DJ sets from Prince V and Sub Bass Snarl. Doors open 6pm and entry is free. The album is out now on independent label Feral Media.

The Lovetones have signed a worldwide deal with New York based label Tee Pee Records. The band's new album Mediations will be released October 18 in the US, followed by a tour of the US beginning October 24.

The Cants tour Western Australia for the first time this weekend to launch their debut album Melbourne Vampires. Out now on Infidelity Recordings, the album was produced by Jim Diamond of US band Dirtbombs. Special guest on the tour is The Volcanics. Further details »

Tuesday, 16th

The Red Paintings embark on an extensive east coast tour through out September and October. The tour includes two shows in Brisbane labeled 'The Mark Ryden in Wonderland Show', in which the band will pay tribute to the American painter by dressing as characters from his paintings. Tim Rogers and The Temperance Union release their new double album Dirty Ron/Ghost Songs in stores September 5 through Festival Mushroom. The double album was recorded at Yikesville Studios in April this year and features guest appearances from Missy Higgins, Rebecca Barnard (Rebecca's Empire) and Donna Simpson (The Waifs). The album will be launched in Sydney and Melbourne in early October. Before then Tim embarks on a ten date whirlwind tour of Germany, Ireland, England and Italy during September. Further details »

Dirty Three is to release its seventh studio album Cinder on October 10. The album is the first from the band to feature vocals, with Chan Marshall and Sally Timms both contributing a vocal track to the record.

Friday, 12th

Expatriate has signed with Dew Process, with the first release to be a debut EP due later this year. The Sydney outfit recorded the extended player at their own studio, Ginsberg Studio, in Petersham.

Thursday, 11th

Youth Group is to interrupt its national tour to return to the UK to play both Reading and Leeds festivals followed by a US tour with Death Cab For Cutie. Following this is the band's own headline tour of the US in support of the album Skeleton Jar, released there on Epitaph. Consequently the band will postpone its Newcastle Show and has rescheduled the Sydney show to the new date of Tuesday August 23 at The Annandale Hotel - this will be an early show with doors opening at 7pm. Sonic Animation hits the road this September to promote its final album Eleven. The double CD album is a retrospective of the duo's last eleven years, featuring all the hits, remixes, and some previously unavailable tracks. The tour will mark the group's last ever headline shows. Joining them on the east coast dates is Soma Rasa. Further details »

Intercooler undertakes an extensive tour of NSW, QLD and VIC in late August and through out September. Joining the band on the road is Melbourne outfit The Suits. The tour is sponsored by the Australian Government's Contemporary Music Touring Program Initiative. Further details »

Friday, 5th

Purplene after eight years performing together have decided to call it a day. Matt Blackman and Dave will focus on their respective recording projects, while Adam and Matt will continue to play in Audiophile. At this stage the band has announced two final shows: Friday August 12 @ Gallipoli Club, Newcastle w/ New Buffalo, Holly Throsby, Firekites (feat. Audiophile members); Saturday September 24 @ Mandarin Club, Sydney.

Thursday, 4th

Rhubarb is set to release its third album Start Again in stores September 12. In support of the release the Brisbane group will hit the road for an east coat tour through out September. Further details »

Krill launches its new EP The Sweet Side Of Cider on Friday August 12 at the Metro's Transit Lounge, Sydney. Out now through MGM, the debut six track EP was produced by Lindsay Gravina at Birdland Studios.

The Triangles launch their second album Magic Johnson in Melbourne on Saturday August 20 at Gertrudes supported by Sly Hats, Kes & Laura Jean. The twelve track album was self-produced and is available in stores now through Half A Cow Records.

Homebake is set to happen once again on Saturday December 3 at The Domain, Sydney. The Golden Age is currently recording its debut album at Electric Avenue Studios. David Reynolds and Evan McHugh are looking after production, Anton Hagop will be mixing the record. Titled Mexico City Bees it is due for release September 19 on new label Red Recordings.

Tuesday, 2nd

Rob Clarkson releases the album Zone One - his first new solo material in ten years - in stores September 5 on Candle Records. The Rock Rover member recorded the album with Michael Allen. In the lead up to the release, Rob plays a Thursday night residency through out August at the Brunswick Green, Brunswick.

Pivot releases its new album Make Me Love You in stores August 8 on Sensory Projects. The group launches the album in Sydney on Saturday August 20 at The Mandarin Club with Saddleback and Comatone. This will be followed the Melbourne launch on Thursday August 25 at The Rob Roy with City City City.

Mike Noga launches his debut album Folk Songs in Hobart at The Venue, Salamanca Place on Saturday August 27. He will be joined by special guest with Ashley Naylor of Even who is also launching his debut solo album Four Track Mind. This will be Mike’s first and final show in Hobart until mid 2006 as he sets off for Europe with The Drones in early September.
