Tuesday, 31st

Waveaid – The DVD is released June 5 through Virgin Music, with all profits from the sale going direct to charity. The DVD features over 4 hours of footage from the tsunami benefit concert held back on January 29 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. In addition to the performances, it also features interviews with some of the behind the scenes organisers and the press conferences held for the event.

Halogen travels eastward this weekend to launch its new single, In The Summer, in Sydney and Melbourne: Friday June 3 @ The Metro Theatre's Transit Lounge, Sydney w/ The Forgotten Army + Blue Gin; Saturday June 4 @ The Rob Roy, Melbourne w/ The Forgotten Army + The Winter Ship. The single is limited edition and will only be for sale at gigs, and not available at retail.

Theodore Presents... 4-Chord Punk is new compilation of local and international emo and punk bands, put together by independent label Theodore Records, due for release June 6. All profits from its sale will be donated to The Australian Red Cross and Care Australia to assist with the ongoing Indian Ocean Tsunami relief effort

Thursday, 26th

British India has signed to independent label In-Fidelity Recordings. The Melbourne band will release its debut single Outside 109, produced by Lindsay Gravina, in June.

Alternative Animals is a new two CD pack out now on Shock Records documenting the Australian punk scene from 1976-79. Created by Scott Anderson, the CD-ROM and audio CD pack features rare & unreleased music, video & interviews with The Saints, Radio Birdman, Boys Next Door, Scientists, X, Manikins, Rocks, Chosen Few, Filth, Whirlywirld, Lipstick Killers, Babeez and many more.

Tuesday, 24th

The Pictures will release their debut album Pieces of Eight on Monday June 13 through Smash Music/Stomp Entertainment. The album was recorded in March 2005 at Sing Sing and Newmarket Studios with producer Greg Wales. In support of the release the band hits the road in June and July, joined by Detroit band The Sights. Fizard and National Pornographic team up for three shows in Melbourne this June: Friday Jun 10 @ Ruby's, Belgrave; Saturday Jun 11 @ Revolver Upstairs, Prahran; Sunday Jun 12 @ National Hotel, Geelong. Fizard also performs an all ages show on Saturday June 25 at the Evelyn Hotel with Equills.

Modern Giant launches its debut album Satellite Nights in Melbourne on Friday June 3 at the Rob Roy Hotel. Special guests will be Ben Birchall, a rare performance by Nic Dalton & Lucy Lehmann, plus the debut performance from Jane V's World. The album, which was produced by Simon Holmes, is out now on Popboomerang Records.

Mountains In The Sky aka Melbourne musician John Lee releases his debut album Celestial Son in stores May 30 through Trikefta. John launches the album in Melbourne on Friday July 1 at Northcote Social Club.

Shihad hits the road from June right through to September with an extensive tour in support of its new album, Love Is The New Hate. The album is due for release May 30 through Warner Music Australia. Further details »

The Bryan Ferry Sexual Experience - the side project for the drummer from Machine Gun Fellatio - tours Melbourne once again this May. The band performs: Friday May 27 @ The Evelyn Hotel, Fitzroy w/ On It + DJ Wax Vandal; Saturday May 28 @ The Espy Front Bar, St Kilda w/ The Get Up Gang + Nervous Gerbil + Phil Para. This tour will see Love Shark from MGF filling in as guest guitarist. The Bryan Ferrysexual Experience EP is out now through MRA.

Aviator Lane heads to Melbourne this Friday May 27 to launch the mini album, Today, the Hills Are Closed, at a very special show with Sodastream at the Northcote Social Club. For the first time ever, Aviator Lane will perform with the musicians that appear on the CD - Michael Radzevicius on guitar/vocals, Marty Brown (Art of Fighting) on drums and Jon Ashley (Brer Mouse) on lead guitar. This may be the only time the band will perform with this lineup. Shows in Sydney in late July are currently being finalised. Hardcore 2005 will take place at the Gaelic Club in Surry Hills, Sydney on Friday July 1 with an all ages, and Saturday July 2 for over 18s only. Headlining this year's event will be Byron Bay's Parkway Drive, fresh from the US where the band recently recorded its new album. Cut Copy's debut album Bright Like Neon Love has been released throughout Europe on V2 and the UK on Modular. Due to the positive response to the album and the band's recent UK tour with Mylo, the group has been added to UK festivals Glastonbury & Wireless, and major European festivals Quart Norway, Peace & Love Sweden and Dour in Belgium, plus more than twenty other dates. The band's next Australian shows are with Bloc Party in Sydney and Melbourne in late July.

Behind Crimson Eyes embark on a east coast tour in late May with Canadian band Silverstein. June will see the band performing at the Rapid Festival in Brisbane. The band's debut EP, Pavour Nocturnus, is out now on Boomtown Records. Further details »

Sarah McLeod of The Superjesus releases her new single, Let's Get Together as a digital download on May 23. The single is lifted from her debut solo album, Beauty Was A Tiger, due for release in September on Festival Mushroom Records. Sarah and her new band - Stu Hunter (keyboards), Mick Skelton (drums), Patch Brown (guitar), Grant Fitzpatrick (bass) - embark on an east coast tour, supporting Thirsty Merc, throughout June and July. The first issue is now available at selected record stores.

Monday, 16th

Ruteger after eight and half years performing, two albums and several EPs, have decided to call it a day. The break up is due to differing opinions between lead songwriter Shannon and the rest of the band on their future musical direction. The band will play one last show on Saturday July 23 at The Golden Vine Hotel, Bendigo, with a three hour set covering every single song in their catalogu.

Tuesday, 10th

Splendour In The Grass has officially sold out. After going on sale on Monday morning, on-site camping tickets sold out in less an hour, while the festival itself sold out in just over 24 hours. There will be absolutely no further tickets available for purchase on the gate. Organisers want to remind punters that tickets purchased from unauthorised resellers such as Ebay are in breach of the conditions of sale, thus rendering them invalid.

Parkway Drive start recording its new album this week in the US with Adam Dutkiewicz at Zing Studios in Westfield, MA. Titled Killing With A Smile, the album will feature 11 tracks and is slated for release September 12 on Resist Records. Upon arriving back home, the band will be hitting the road in June with Orange County's Bleeding Through, then appearing at Hardcore 2005 in Sydney in early July.

Bucketrider finally launches its album of last year L'Événements in Melbourne on Saturday June 11 at Ding Dong Lounge. Supports include Anthony Pateras and Robin Fox, City City City, and Whitehorse, with DJs Janette Howard and Xian from Black Lotus.

Modern Giant launches its debut album Satellite Nights on Saturday May 14 at the Hopetoun Hotel, Sydney with Smudge and The Wellingtons in support. The eleven track album, produced by Simon Holmes, is released on Popboomerang Records in early May.

Monday, 9th

This is Your Captain Speaking launches its debut album Storyboard in Melbourne at the Rob Roy Hotel on Saturday May 21 with guests Because of Ghosts and the Sunwrae Ensemble, plus live visuals by the Rob Phrase Delegation. Doors open at 9pm and tickets are $7 on the door.

Decoder Ring has scored the music for the new film Jewboy, a short feature by writer/director Tony Krawitz, to be premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in mid-May. The band is currently at work on its new album, and will be performing at the Splendour In The Grass festival in July.

Neon releases its new single Dizziness in stores May 23. It is lifted from the forthcoming debut album, produced by Steven McDonald (Redd Kross), and released on July 4. The band is currently touring overseas but will return to home shores shortly for Australian dates.

Deloris releases a new EP in the coming weeks. The extended player features the track Feather Figure from the band's most recent album, Fake Our Deaths, and seven acoustic tracks. Recorded in March, five of the acoustic tracks are bare bones reworkings of tracks from the aforementioned album and two are brand new. The release is a limited run of 500 and will be available from the band's website and independent record stores.

The Sinking Citizenshio has licensed its debut album to Sweet Nothing/Cargo Records for release in the UK on May 9 and throughout Europe on May 16. The band tours Europe in early May to support the album. The UK label has also licensed the rights to the group's second album to be recorded later this year.

Thursday, 5th

Faker releases its new EP, The Familiar / Enough, in stores May 8 through Capitol/EMI. The five track extended player is followed by the debut album Addicted Romantic on June 13.

Splendour In The Grass organisers have announced the second round of acts for this year's festival. Joining the line-up is: The Living End, After The Fall, Beautiful Girls, Decoder Ring, Butterfingers, The Grates, Atlantic; plus internationals Ryan Adams, Finn Brothers, Scribe, Mercury Rev and Willy Mason. They join the existing line-up of Interpol, Bloc Party, Queens Of The Stone Age, Moby, Shihad and Sarah Blasko. It's all set to happen Sat July 23 and Sun July 24 at Belongil Fields, Byron Bay.
